The project started last week and the first signs of progress became evident yesterday when some tinted sidewalk was poured in the first block near the Valentine Street intersection.
1. Approximately 80% of the shop drawings submitted by the contractor have been approved by our office.
2. Site specific grading plans were prepared and issued by Maser for two of the eight blocks where improvements are proposed. Plans for another two blocks will be issued on or before July 30th.
3. A scoring plan for the sidewalks was developed for the project by Maser and issued.
4. Approximately 60% of the curbs and sidewalks have been removed in the first block.
5. Approximately 60% of the electrical conduit and three light pole foundations have been installed in the first block.
6. Approximately 120 linear feet of curbs have been installed as well as some of the tinted sidewalk.
7. Two broken water services have been discovered in the work zone that could affect progress if not corrected by the owners. On a side note, the HMUA has expressed concern over the contractor’s operation of construction vehicles in the vicinity of curb stops and water services.
8. The discovery of Verizon conduits beneath the sidewalk on Main Street has required some adjustments in the location and footing designs for the lights
9. A catch basin within the Route 46 cartway near the tattoo parlor has a makeshift frame and a badly deteriorated rear wall. Repair work will be needed to avoid compromising the new sidewalk. We have asked the contractor for a price to do this work.
10. A void was discovered beneath the sidewalk in front of the tattoo parlor that needs to be remediated. We are not sure if this void existed( i.e. sidewalk was constructed in a bridge like manner over the void) or if it was created by this water service leak.
