Mike Agranoff will be appearing as part of the gallery's Music off Main at Arts off Main music series.
Arts off Main is located at 128 Willow Grove Street near Route 46 and the Five Points Intersection in Hackettstown. Music starts at 7:30 p.m. and continues until 9:30 p.m.
Agranoff, whose show is family-friendly, is known for his varied catalog of material ranging from ancient harp tunes to obscure Tin-Pan-Alley compositions using his fingerstyle guitar. He will also occasionally come out with a number on banjo, harmonica, or even nothing but his fine unaccompanied baritone. He performs arrangements of music by anyone from Bach to the Berryman's to Joplin.
Ever a wordsmith and raconteur, he weaves fascinating stories and monologues which introduce and connect his musical numbers. He is also a keen observer on the "folk scene" itself, and often his material offers shrewd commentary on ourselves and our contemporaries in this quirky field of endeavor. Mike has a unique ability to convey the point of the song to the listener directly. He incorporates elements of the musical arrangement, vocal and facial expression, and an almost telepathic ability to put across a message or mood. Listeners find themselves singing choruses to songs they've never heard, or finding new understanding of songs they've heard a million times.
Mike's original exposure to music was an unusual mix of classical piano lessons and the progressive FM stations in the '60's. The purchase of a Martin guitar inexorably shaped the course of the rest of his musical life. After a Crosby, Stills, Mitchell & Garfunkle phase, he discovered the world of traditional and traditionesque folk.
He has shared his love for music over the past 20 years at festivals, concert series, and coffeehouses throughout the Northeastern United States and the United Kingdom much to the delight of those who have seen him perform.
Tickets for the show are just $10 apiece and can be purchased at the door. Children 12 and under are free. Light refreshments, including coffee and snacks, are available for purchase.
