Hackettstown Fire Prevention Bureau would like your help to guarantee that your FIRE HYDRANTS are not blocked or covered by snow.
If you adopt a hydrant, this means that you have promised to dig out a 36 inch walk space from curb line into the front discharge of the hydrant and dig out a 24 inch walk space around the hydrant. You must be at least be in the 3rd grade and have your parents permission.
Tell Hackettstown Fire Prevention Bureau where you live and if possible they will assign the fire hydrant closest to you home. Your parents must sign the attached form stating you will only dig when accompanied by one of them or that they are aware that you are outside fulfilling your promise to this project.
Hydrants should be cleared during daylight hours and only hydrants on lightly trafficked streets will be assigned.

At the beginning of the spring, all the children that adopted hydrants and kept them free of snow will be invited to the local fire house to receive a special gift. They will also receive a public "thank you" by name and photo in the local Hackettstown newspaper.
